U.S. Embassy hosts 4th of July Celebration
Embassy Kigali held its traditional official American Independence Day celebration on July 2. The celebration started with the singing of the American and Rwandan National Anthems. More than 300 guests including Rwandan ministers, foreign ambassadors, and leaders of governmental and non-government organizations came to celebrate U.S. Independence Day with the Americans. The 4th of July is when Americans remember their history, and renew their commitment to democracy, tolerance, and justice, not only in the United States, but also around the globe. The U.S. Embassy in Kigali hosted the gathering to celebrate America's Independence two days before the 4th of July since the host country celebrates its liberation day on the 4th of July.
In his remarks, Ambassador Stuart Symington noted that the 4th of July is an occasion for the American people to present to the world their values and the belief they have in democracy, tolerance and respect for human rights.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Richard Sezibera, who represented the Rwandan Government, thanked the U.S. Ambassador for inviting the Government of Rwanda to share with Americans the celebration of the independence of the American people.
