You may receive additional information about the individuals by contacting the local bar association (or its equivalent) or the local licensing authorities.

The Ministry of Justice must approve all attorneys who enter private practice. Attorneys must be citizens of good standing in the community, not have been convicted of a crime for which more than a six-month prison sentence was served, and, in the case of former government employees, not have been fired from his or her job. Please note that Rwanda did not have a professional bar association until late 1995, when the Association des Juristes Avocats du Rwanda (AJAR) was formed. Only members of the bar can argue before a court but membership in the bar association is not required for private practice.

No private attorney can perform notary services in Rwanda. Only the Office of the Notary at the Ministry of Justice, or the responsible district-level Notary can do so.
