The Consular Section is the principal office in the Mission assisting U.S. citizens in Rwanda. It provides services to help protect citizens' rights and interests. It also provides essential welfare and humanitarian aid in cases of emergency.

Beyond this responsibility to the American Citizens, the consular section is a prime actor in the administration of U.S. immigration law, issuing visas for travel to the United States and family reunification of refugees and asylees.  Embassy Kigali does not process immigrant visas.

Please call 250-596-400 X 2606 during working hours or e-mail consularkigali@state.gov with questions.  We are open 0900-1730 Mon - Thur and 0900-1300 on Fridays.  Visa applications are accepted by appointment only, except for diplomats and officials, who may drop off their applications at any time. Passports are returned to visa applicants on Tuesdays between 1700-1730 and Fridays between 1200-1300. (Officials may drop off and pick up passports at any time.)
