Rwanda Youth Leadership Program Follow-on Workshop.

18 Rwanda students from different Secondary Schools and 3 educators visited the United States of America last year (September 8- December 24, 2007). Following that visit, a 2 days workshop was organized at Ninzi Hill Hotel to strengthen their leadership ability and keep good relationship with US host Families.

At the opening ceremony, Ambassador Michael Arietti exchanged views, ideas and experiences with students during their visit to the U.S. Ambassador Arietti took the same occasion to answer on some questions related to mutual understanding, relationship between Rwanda and the United States of America. Ambassador Arietti replied “well, we do so many thinks to help Rwanda; here are some of the examples of what we do. We have different scholarships for Rwandans to go to Universities; we have cooperation on economic level in many ways, from the Embassy we try to get American investors to start their businesses in Rwanda, we have many groups who come on different exchange programs either working with churches here, or working with many medical schools, or different, different programs of that kind I have forgot. We also have partnership programs that we are working where Americans funds go to improve infrastructure and capacity one of the thinks that went quiet successful is helping to build up the medical facilities in rural areas in Rwanda. Where you have small health clinics in these different towns, villages, rural areas and we have done a lot to make sure that there is either a trained doctor, trained nurse that the medical center has the demands that has medication, has enough water and resources there so we do that. We also have at Political level President Kagame goes to the United States very often and President Bush came here. So we try to build connections at all different levels: Political level, economic level, social level, humanitarian level, diplomatic level, education level; all of these things. There is a general desire to build up ties between our countries”
