AIDS Small Grants Funds
Kigali, November 1--The United States Embassy announces the establishment of the Ambassador’s HIV/AIDS Small Grants Program. The program, funded through the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), assists grassroots, community-run HIV/AIDS awareness, education, and training programs. The fund is designed to encourage communities to cooperate in fighting the epidemic by increasing awareness and understanding of the disease while reducing associated stigma and discrimination. It will support community groups in such efforts as:
• School-based HIV/AIDS awareness activities;
• Health rights training programs;
• Utilizing the arts to educate communities about HIV/AIDS and to provide a positive, creative outlet for individuals affected by the disease.
Community groups, professional organizations, student groups, educational institutions, non-governmental organizations, media, and private sector groups are all eligible for funding. Grant proposals ranging between $250 and $10,000 will be considered. Proposals must be for discreet, short-term, high-impact activities. Consideration will be given in the selection process to an organization’s previous activities and in particular a demonstrated ability to manage funds.
Proposals must be submitted in person or by mail to the Public Affairs Office, Embassy of the United States of America, B.P. 28, Kigali, and should include the following information:
• Organization details (postal address, telephone numbers, fax number, e-mail address, name and title of person responsible for the activity);
• Description of the organization (how long the organization has existed, where it is based, size, funding sources, other activities undertaken);
• Detailed description of the activity, an estimate of the number of beneficiaries of the activity, and its intended impact;
• Detailed budget.
