Hand Grenade Attack in Nyanza District

This Warden Message advises U.S. citizens that Rwandan authorities have arrested five suspects in connection with a September 26 hand grenade attack at a crowded marketplace in rural Nyanza District, Southern Province, Rwanda.  The attack killed at least 4 people and 52 were reported to be injured, some seriously.  The motive of the attack is unclear and possible repercussions stemming from these arrests cannot be predicted at this time.  Consequently, in keeping with previous recommendations, the Embassy urges U.S. citizens in Rwanda to remain vigilant, exercise caution, and avoid crowds, demonstrations, or any other form of public gathering.

If you have questions or concerns about safety or related issues, you are encouraged to contact the consular section at the Embassy.  The Embassy is located at 2657 Avenue de la Gendarmerie; the mailing address is B.P. 28, Kigali, Rwanda; tel.
